welcome
Hello and Welcome to my new website!!! As a Textile enthusiast, studying and sharing my love of the Creative Arts is a passion. Each day brings new and exciting insight into the techniques and materials available to us to create beautiful and useful work which will delight us and enhance our lives. Whether piecing and quilting a lovely bed quilt, developing the design and pattern for a new wall quilt or diving in to the creative process of an original, spontaneous fibre art piece that has no pattern, plan or map to follow, I simply need the challenge of working with fabric and threaded needles in my life. I have worked for many years researching the history of quilting as a Art Form, and I am committed to sharing the wonderful stories of quilters and quilts from our past, and how these stories relate to our day to day lives and how the skills we take from our foremothers will help us forge the future of Fibre Art and Quiltmaking in our time.
For over 20 years, I have shared my passion for quiltmaking as an Instructor in Shops, at Guild Workshop Days, in the Community College setting and through my own Independent Workshops. For me, the discovery of a new technique or the perfection of a skill that will make my work easier and a bit faster is exciting. Being able to share those discoveries is the best part of quilting, and I spend a huge part of my life developing new classes and workshops to help encourage and support both new and old skills with confidence. We are blessed here in the Kingston, Ontario area to have a large and very active Needle Arts community that supports the sharing of skills and provides many resources for Quilters, Embroiderers, Garment Designers, Spinners/Weavers and Fibre Artists.
The Creative Arts Program at St. Lawrence College’s Kingston Campus is very much a part of the evolving Fibre Arts resurgence in our area and my everyday life! St. Lawrence College welcomes students to be a part of the new TEXTILE DESIGN Program which offers students the opportunity to be exposed to many facets of Fibre Art and design.
Another exciting and very important facet of my life is being a part of the FIBREWORKS KINGSTON Weekend Workshops Series. I have been privileged to act as Associate Coordinator for the program with mentor and close friend, HILARY SCANLON for many years.
Our instructors are professional designers and well-known craftsperson's who will share their specific skills and knowledge. The participants are professionals, teachers and interested craftsperson's, or amateurs wishing to learn and share together for further stimulation and knowledge. Plan to make this your year to have a creative learning experience at a FIBREWORKS KINGSTON Weekend Workshop 2007-2008. Please contact me for more details.
